A man stopped by police near Steyning for using a mobile phone while driving has been disqualified from driving and fined nearly £1300.
Ashley Ward, 45, of Alford in Surrey, was stopped while driving his Volvo XC90 on the A283 Bramber by-pass on January 12. He was seen by a road policing officer to drift across the centre of the road on a number of occasions and when he pulled up alongside him, he could see Mr Ward texting on his mobile.
He appeared before Haywards Heath magistrates on November 4. He already had nine points on his licence from previous mobile phone and speeding offences and was fined £800 with costs of £455. He was also disqualified from driving for six months.
