A school mini-bus has rolled over after coming off the road between the A27 Drusillas roundabout and Alfriston village. Emergency services were called to the scene near Berwick Court Farm at 7.59am on Tuesday morning 1 December.
All the eight children on board – four girls and four boys, aged 9 to 13 and the 72-year old driver, who were on their way to St Andrews School in Eastbourne – escaped with minor injuries – ie cuts, bruises etc. The children were taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital to be checked over and the driver was treated at the scene.
Two schoolgirl pedestrians, on their way to Ringmer Community College were hit by the mini-bus when it left the road. One,aged 14, has been detained at hospital with fractured ribs and a punctured lung but the injuries are not life-threatening. The other girl, aged 13, is being treated for a minor neck injury but is not being detained.
Traffic in the area, already affected by flooding on adjacent roads, has been seriously disrupted. Police have appealed for drivers to avoid the scene and asked for any witnesses to contact 0845 60 70 999 quoting Serial 230 of 1 December..
